Dilemma
Nope, not going to discuss about work today. Haha! Dilemmas, Decisions, Right, Wrong, Procrastination. Sometimes in life, we reach crossroads. Some are vital while others are simply negligible. So what do we do when we reach crossroads? Sometimes the direction is very clear, turn left, turn right, go straight, or even U-turn. But there are times where you know a mistake at this very point will lead you to a very very long route ahead. How do we make decisions at this point? 1.) Dilemmas. These are things are keep you thinking, wondering or even brainstorming. I face dilemmas every single day. To eat or not to eat? To work or to slack? To run or not to run? Sometimes our weak determination will try to persuade you to just take the simpler way out. But never will you know that, this early and simple exit will cause you a serious fall, or even make you reach a dead end. Everyday I buy this simple $0.65 bread for breakfast, same brand same strawberry flavor. I eat my breakfast at 8.35am everyday, facing the same people and drinking the same ice water in my cup everyday. People ask me: Wah, not sian meh, everyday see you eat same thing? To be honest, I think I got numb. People ask me, why do I torture myself in this way? My answer: for the benefit in the long run. People underestimate a lot of vicious cycles. Eating is one of them, why? Yes, people get a short term satisfaction from food. Basically, it is like a drug, you get to feed your satisfaction for a few hours. If you think about it in the long run, what happens? Additional food gets you fat, and when you get fat, you lose your confidence. Life suddenly becomes a lil grayer. Yes you can always eat to get out of the gray area, but is that going to be the solution? No, you are just gonna get fatter and fatter. In the long run, losing all your self confidence. Then, you realise you are in a vicious cycle, dependent on food for happiness and such. It is a never ending cycle until you decide to step out of it. 2.) Decisions. Whats right? Whats wrong? It is so controversial. What is right now might turn into a disaster tomorrow. So what do we do? We just stop planning and just take the nearest exit when there's a need? When you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Regrets are part and parcel of life, you make this decision now; I am almost promise you that you will one day regret. One day, you will come to think of this day when you take this left or right turn. Why? Opportunity costs. For everything that you do now, you will sacrifice something. And thats the sacrifice that will come haunting in your mind that very day. So whats my stand? Well, we can't make all decisions on a long term basis. Just for a simple reason, without short term goals, you will NEVER reach your LONG term plans. For instance, yes tuition is a totally waste of time, for the money that is not permanent and you practically get nothing else other than money for the golden hours you spend with your tuition kid. For your information, all tuitions are actually on golden hours of the day when people ain't working or are having free time. This means you lose out on the socializing time that people get. All the Friday nights, when you could be having a drink with your friends, you are giving tuition. Seriously, come to think of it, that $30 or $40 is not even worth it, you lose so much friends that in the long run, you lose out. But why do I do it despite the fact that I know its not worthwhile? I realise that we can't just have long term goals. Short term plans are necessary. Without these tuition income, I don't even have enough finances to go around. So what if you have time? Think about it. We must do planning with a balanced amount of short term and long term goals. 3.) Procrastination. It is the replacement of high priority decisions with matters of lower priority. In simple words, just postpone. Many people are actually fans of procrastination. But is it wrong to procrastinate? Many people think that it is wrong to procrastinate. I think otherwise. I believe there are some cases where procrastination can actually be a good thing. Why? Yes, you are not solving the problem, you are running away from it. But why is it good? All I can say is, you don't have forever; if you are able to run away from the problem for such a long period of time, you actually solve the problem. I'm not gonna quote examples. Think about it, if you can really run away from a problem for the rest of your life, you actually solved it. We don't need material solutions for every problem. Life is a learning journey, so embrace knowledge and learn skills. P.S. To those people who are dead interested, I actually don't have high GPA to get my contract. I barely scrape average of B in my grades. Yeah, stop bugging me about it already. |
